Instead of talking about something new in the technology world, today we'd like to better introduce ourselves here at Vhical. We are located in New Albany, Indiana, right across the Ohio River from Louisville, Kentucky. We established Vhical in 2020, but have been involved in web design and various engineering projects for over twenty years. While we are working to grow and expand, for the time being our team is a small, local, mom and pop business.

On October 5th, six years since the release of Windows 10, Microsoft will release their latest operating system, Windows 11. The first iteration of Windows was released on November 20, 1985 and has since come to become the most popular personal computer operating system with more than 1.5 billion personal computers running Windows globally and nearly 92% of the total desktop operating system marketing shares.

In our last article we talked about cryptocurrencies, so there is no better time to talk about the mysterious cousin to cryptocurrencies, NFT's. An NFT, or non-fungible token, is, according Wikipedia, a unit of data stored on a digital ledger, called a blockchain, that certifies a digital asset to be unique and therefore not interchangeable. When earning cryptocurrency, like Bitcoin or Ethereum, one "mines" for the currency, and when creating an NFT, one "mints" in the same way.

If you have followed any news lately, whether it be online, tv, or print, you have heard of cryptocurrencies. While many of us still don't use cryptocurrencies, or even fully understand what they are, more and more businesses, and even countries, are starting to utilize them. In fact, in June of this year, El Salvador became the first country to make Bitcoin a legal tender, with Cuba following suit a few months later. Cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Dogecoin, are digital currencies that use cryptography to keep online transactions secure.

Today, nearly everything we do has some presence on the internet, and sometimes the things we do exists only on the internet. Since we use the internet for everything from enjoyment to employment, it is very important that everyone has the same access to the it. While it may be easy for many of us to navigate the websites and apps that we use in our daily lives, not designing these sites and apps with web accessibility in mind leaves many users with disabilities unable to enjoy or benefit from them the same way as others do.

AI, or artificial intelligence, sounds like something that still only exists in the future, but the average person already benefits from AI in their daily lives. Without even realizing it, many of us are utilizing artificial intelligence in our own homes. If you own a digital voice assistant, such as Alexa, Siri, or Cortana, you may already recognize the potential benefits that artificial intelligence offers.

Chances are, if you use the internet you also use some form of social media, because as of 2021, there are 3.6 billion people using social media worldwide. This is no surprise because social media provides many benefits in our fast-paced, modern life. With social media we can easily keep in contact with friends and family, be informed on the latest news locally and globally, learn about new products or places, keep informed about your favorite artists, and just take a break from every day life.

On August 6, 1991, the world wide web was first launched and our world has never been the same. Sir Tim Berners-Lee, while working at CERN, European Organization for Nuclear Research, found himself frustrated at not being able to access files from his computer when elsewhere at work. To make his life easier, he sketched up the idea, one that his boss described as "vague, but exciting", that would come to be known as the world wide web. Many people today think of the internet when they hear the term, "world wide web", but the two are not the same thing.

These days nearly every established business has a website, but in a time where more people in the world own cell phones than toothbrushes, just having a website is no longer enough. Having a website is one of the most important things you can do to ensure your business's success, but having a mobile friendly website is absolutely necessary in making your business stand out in the crowd.

The need for remote work has increased as the use of the internet has become the normal for most people, and since the COVID-19 pandemic shook up our world, the need for remote jobs has increased exponentially. Many companies made the shift to remote work to protect their workforce from the danger of contracting the coronavirus with the intention of resuming typical, daily office work once the pandemic was over.
